Corazón promotes and celebrates the cultural diversity of Mexico through Ballet Folklórico dance performance by building a community of passionate dancers throughout the DMV area. Corazón seeks to create a space where anyone can participate in the joy and art of Ballet Folklórico.
The dance company achieves their mission by offering engaging classes to students of all backgrounds and levels, collaborating with community members and organizations on presenting exciting dance performances at events throughout the year, and producing an annual showcase at a D.C. theatre for the general public to enjoy.
Producing Artistic Director, Alejandro Góngora received a certificate of achievement from the Mexican Embassy's Cultural Institute of Washington, D.C. (MCI) for his completion of folk dance studies in July, 2016. A year later, Mr. Góngora partnered with the MCI as a resident artist to offer free dance classes to adults at the Mexican Embassy's former consulate building in efforts to grow a community of folk ballet dancers and establish a dance company, Corazón Folklórico. On September 18, 2017, Corazón Folklórico DC, Inc. was established as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
Since establishment, the company has performed for over 18,000 spectators at more than 70 events in the DMV area.
