About Us

Corazón Folklórico DC, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dance company that showcases Mexico’s rich cultural diversity through ballet folklórico in Washington, DC.

THE MISSION

Corazón promotes and celebrates the cultural diversity of Mexico through Ballet Folklórico dance performance by building a community of passionate dancers throughout the DMV area.  Corazón's vision is to create a space where anyone can participate in the joy and art of Ballet Folklórico.

The dance company achieves its mission through its 3 programs: by offering engaging classes to students of all backgrounds and levels, collaborating with community members and organizations on presenting exciting dance performances at events throughout the year, and producing an annual showcase at a local DC theatre for the general public to enjoy.

Latest New: The Kennedy Center Social Impact Program, 2022-2024 Culture Caucus Member

Corazón was selected by the Kennedy Centers Social Impact program as a local artist making a positive impact in the community and to participate in the Cultural Caucus at the Reach. This 2 year incubation and residency program allows for Corazón and the other members of the cohort to organize events and hold activities at the REACH Campus at The Kennedy Center for the public.

Resident artist dance company at the Mexican Embassy's Cultural Institute of Washington, D.C.

Producing Artistic Director, Alejandro Góngora received a certificate of achievement from the Mexican Embassy's Cultural Institute of Washington, D.C. (MCI) for his completion of folk dance studies in July, 2016. A year later, Mr. Góngora partnered with the MCI as a resident artist to offer free dance classes to adults at the Mexican Embassy's former consulate building in efforts to grow a community of folk ballet dancers and establish a dance company, Corazón Folklórico. On September 18, 2017, Corazón Folklórico DC, Inc. was established as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.

Corazón Folklórico Dance Company creates a welcoming and multicultural community in the Washington D.C. metro area by offering free dance classes to adults (18+ years old). Our classes are successful at teaching beginner to advanced students alike. Students develop dance skills for performing at various events including our annual showcase. Join us in our exciting activities and celebration of Mexican culture!

Since establishment, the company has performed for over 18,000 spectators  at more than 70 events in the DMV area.
