"I started Corazón Folklórico DC with the mission to showcase Mexico's beautiful culture in the nation's capital. I teach and choreograph ballet folklórico because dance helped me overcome seemingly insurmountable adversity. When I faced being homeless in high school, my folk dance peers opened their homes to me while my family overcame this incredible hardship. I founded Corazón so that I may provide free classes to the DMV community and provide a culturally enriched arts educational opportunity to people who want to connect with the Latinx community and build a home in the DMV area. Since then, Corazón has reached new audiences through its Mexican folk dance performances while creating a safe space for the Latinx community."
